Mountains, 2024
Hello Art Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. I'm excited to share some wonderful news about my artistic journey and upcoming events.
Recently, I had an amazing trip to Mount Rainier and Seattle, WA. It was my first time hiking the Skyline Trail at Mount Rainier, and of course, I took the opportunity to paint. After my trip to Europe, I discovered that traveling with gouache is much easier; it's a lighter setup that made hiking with my supplies a breeze. The breathtaking views inspired several new paintings, which you can see below.
Soon after, I participated in the 4th FLOYD PLEIN Air event in Floyd, VA, a beautiful meadow surrounded by mountains. The trees were just beginning to show signs of fall, with leaves turning yellow and red. Unexpectedly, Hurricane Helene brought strong winds, heavy rain, and dense fog, creating challenging painting conditions. Like many artists there, I had to improvise, using an umbrella, tarp, and my car's back door as a makeshift shelter. Despite the weather, I focused on finding colorful subjects in the gray landscape. The storm caused power outages, but thanks to the grace and dedication of Joli Ayn Wood and the generosity of patrons Suzanne and Dennis Ross, we celebrated our hard work at their home. I was honored to receive an honorable mention for my painting "Bird Song" from judge Laura McManus, Curator of Education at the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College, and sponsored by Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors. Despite the challenging conditions, the event was a success, thanks to the supportive community.
On my way back, I witnessed the widespread impact of the hurricane, with fallen trees and damaged infrastructure. Despite the fuel shortages, I managed to return home safely. You can view my works from the event below.
